Baseball:
While the 2023 Valle Vista League finished out its regular season on Thursday, third place had yet to be determined.
Northview and West Covina split their two-game series this week, and that set up Friday’s tiebreaker.
NHS got two in the first, five in the second and cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
Sal Batres dominated.
Batres went the distance, allowing one earned run on one hit.
He didn’t issue a walk and struck out eight.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jacob Nguyen was hit by pitch and he scored on a Tony Macon single.
And one inning later, Austin Nguyen reached on an error, and he eventually scored on an Alan Trejo ground out.
Aleksander Gavaghan was charged with seven runs (two earned) on four hits.
Gavaghan walked two and fanned one NHS batter.
Joey Ramos doubled and had three RBIs.
Dean Curley walked, drove in a run on a sac fly, scored twice and hit a solo HR.
Batres went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Dylan Ramos walked, singled twice, scored a pair of runs and had one RBI.
Joey Alcon walked, singled, scored and had an RBI.
Isaac Nava walked and scored.
