Boys Athlete of the Week:

Arcadia entered the final week of the 2023 regular season trailing first-place Crescenta Valley by one game, and that meant they’d need a two-game sweep of the Falcons to secure a fourth consecutive Pacific League title.

After edging CV, 5-4, on Tuesday, the Apaches secured the sweep with an 11-2 victory on Friday night at Stengel Field.

AHS has now won Pacific League championships in 2019 and 2021-2023.

The only roadblock to a fifth consecutive title was COVID-19 knocking out the 2020 season.

Arcadia has now won eight consecutive games against their rival.

And no one played a bigger role in both games than did Fernando Palencia.

On Tuesday, Palencia walked twice, had two doubles, scored twice and drove in one.

On the mound, he earned the save by going a scoreless top of the seventh inning.

CV had the bases loaded in the seventh, but Palencia got Brandon Kwon looking to end the game.

On Friday, Palencia went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.

Palencia got the final six outs to secure a championship, including two via strikeout.
