Baseball:
San Dimas earned the outright 2023 Valle Vista League championship thanks to a pair of 4-3 drama-filled victories over Charter Oak.
In Thursday’s win, SDHS scored three times in the top of the sixth and got one more in the seventh to edge the Chargers.
Athen Malone went six for COHS and allowed three runs on four hits.
Malone issued a pair of walks and struck out four.
Chris Gonzlaez surrendered an unearned run on one hit and a walk.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Kasen Khansarinia walked and a Vaughn Coleman singled to set up a first-and-third scenario.
Landon White followed with a two-run double.
Three batters later, Jude Favela’s sac fly plated White and the game was tied at 3-3.
In the seventh and with one out, Khansarinia reached based on an error, and Coleman’s RBI double turned out to be the game winner.
White went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and those two crucial RBIs.
Coleman singled, doubled, scored and had an RBI.
Ryder Young drew a pair of walks and singled.
Kody King went 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits.
King walked three and fanned one COHS batter.
Gabriel Claros provided 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Kasen Khansarinia secured the championship with a scoreless seventh inning.
Moses Medrano doubled and drove in a run for COHS.
Diego Ortiz walked, singled twice and scored.
Anthony Vasquez and Athen Malone had two singles apiece.
Samuel Morales singled and scored two runs.
Josiah Martinez had a single and an RBI.
Chris Gonzalez went 2-for-4.
Nathan Arevalos singled once for the Chargers.
