Baseball:
Marshall Fundamental made program history on Thursday.
For the first time, the Eagles finished Mission Valley League play unscathed.
Marshall secured a 3-2 victory at South El Monte to finish their magical MVL run at 12-0.
Andrew Medina got the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings.
Medina walked three and fanned one Eagles batter.
Marshall scored all three runs in the top of the sixth.
Wes Pendleton and Trevor Lain walked, and Jesus Flores singled in a run.
Pendleton scored on an error to extend the lead to 2-0.
And Ben Muro’s RBI fielder’s choice gave Marshall a 3-0 lead.
Ryan Pandullo went 2-for-3.
Pendleton walked, singled and scored.
Nate Callaway singled.
Ethan Sparks went all seven and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.
He walked six and struck out five South El Monte batters.
Sparks surrendered a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.
As mentioned, SEM got as close as 3-2, but Sparks struck out his counterpart, Andrew Medina, to close out the win.
D’Angelo Huerta walked, singled and had an RBI.
Gabriel Rincon singled twice.
Christian Ortega singled and scored.
And Ruben Reyes walked and scored.
Over their 12-0 run, the Eagles outscored their MVL opponents by a combined margin of 109-32.
And it’s their third consecutive MVL championship.
Marshall will enter the postseason having won 17 of their last 18 games.
