College Baseball:
Mt. SAC might not make the playoffs in 2023.
But because of their hot play down the stretch, the Mounties are impacting what South Coast Conference programs do, and to an extent, their postseason seed out of the SCC.
MSAC has won 10 of their last 12 SCC games, and that includes Tuesday’s 6-5 walk-off victory over first-place El Camino.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Bradyn France singled in Elijah Pelayo to tie the game at 5-5.
And Joey Rossetti’s sac fly with the bases loaded sent the Mounties home happy.
Pierce Kingston got the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over three innings.
He walked one and struck out one MSAC batter.
Blake Hagerty’s two-run HR in the fifth got Mt. SAC to within 5-3.
Pelayo singled, tripled and scored.
Rossetti finished with a single, the RBI on a sac fly, and he scored twice.
Travis Hobbensiefken’s RBI single in the third got the Mounties even at 1-1.
France went 2-for-4, with a run and two RBIs.
CJ Ontiveros walked twice and doubled.
Gibby Morales walked and scored.
El Camino got five runs (three earned) off Michael Flores on seven hits.
Flores went five innings, walked a pair and fanned seven.
Hunter Holmes (2 1/3), Damien Torres (1/3) and Ray Northey (one) combined to go the final four innings without allowing any further damage.
Daniel Murillo doubled, scored and had an RBI.
Brendan McAndrews singled twice and scored.
Ethan Felix walked twice, and he had two singles and an RBI.
Connor Meidroth went 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and one RBI.
Juan Carlos Camarena walked and had an RBI single.
With two to play, El Camino has a one-game lead over second-place PCC, and a two-game advantage over ELAC, Rio Hondo and LBCC.
