Baseball:
Heading into the final week of the regular season, Ayala and Bonita were tied atop the Palomares League standings and they both needed two-game sweeps over Glendora and Colony, respectively, to set up a Friday showdown to determine the No. 1 seed out of the Palomares League.
Because the Bulldogs and Bearcats are both CIF-SS Division 1 programs, and they would finish league play 9-1, and with both winning one against the other, a playoff game would take place Friday with the winner almost certainly guaranteed a first-round home game next week.
Bonita defeated Colony, 6-3, as Justin Santiago toed the rubber for his last regular season home game.
Santiago tosses six scoreless innings and allowed three hits.
He walked three and struck out six Titans.
Colony got three runs on three hits and a walk against the Bearcats’ Elijah Guerrero
Connor Rangel went 3-for-4 and scored.
Riley Litwin walked twice, singled and had an RBI.
Carlos Barba and Isaac Sanchez singled and scored one run each.
Steven Gonzales got the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits over four innings.
He walked three and fanned three BHS batters.
Garrett Patterson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Diego Villa singled twice and scored.
Jared Brunk singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Diego Vazquez went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.
Colton Perez walked twice and scored.
Tyler Holley walked, scored and had an RBI.
