PCC Pounds Out 15 Hits in Tuesday’s 9-7 SCC Victory Over Compton; Lancers Alone in Second Place w/Two to Play

With two South Coast Conference games to play, Pasadena City College finds itself just one-game back of first-place El Camino.

The Lancers got help from Mt. SAC (6-5 over El Camino) and ELAC (8-2 vs Rio Hondo) and did themselves a favor by defeating visiting Compton, 9-7, at Brookside Park.

After taking a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, PCC found itself trailing the Tartars, 7-6, after five innings of play.

The Lancers, though, would get single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to pull away.

Kyle Noell went four innings and allowed five runs on six hits.

Noell walked two and fanned one.

Ben Griffith was credited with the win.

Griffith provided four innings of relief and surrendered just one earned run on two hits.

He walked two and got a pair of Compton batters on strikes.

Rider Gardner earned the save by getting the last three outs without any damage.

Gardner struck out one.

Vinny Avalos went 2-for-3 with a triple, run and three RBIs.

Zaid Humphrey walked, singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Tervell Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs from the leadoff spot.

Ryan Smith doubled and scored two runs.

Armando Arguello surrendered six runs (two earned) on nine hits over his four innings.

Rene Valenzuela was saddled with the loss, going 2 1/3 and allowing two runs on three hits.

He walked two and fanned a pair of PCC batters.

The Harrison brothers played big in PCC’s win.

Aryonis Harrison went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and an RBI.

Amaris Harrison singled, tripled, scored and had an RBI.

Toshiki Kuriya singled, hit a solo HR in the eighth and drove in a pair of runs.

Jakob Guardado singled and his sixth-inning double scored Aryonis Harrison to tie the score at 7-7.

Guardado had two RBIs.

Jake Trabbie walked, singled and scored.

Tommy Castillo went 2-for-5 with two runs.

Matt Delgado walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Jack Esguerra singled twice and drove in a run.

Seven PCC batters had two hits each in Tuesday’s win.
