Boys Athlete of the Week:
What an eventful week it was for the Maranatha baseball program, and for senior Cider Canon.
The Minutemen went 4-0, officially secured a sixth consecutive Olympic League championship and outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 53-7.
In Olympic League play, they claimed a pair of wins over Heritage Christian and one versus Whittier Christian, and did so without surrendering a single run (44-0).
They closed out the next to last week of the regular season with an impressive 9-7 victory at Charter Oak on Saturday.
Cider Canon was certainly in a zone that few get to experience.
He went 9-for-13 with five home runs, including three in Wednesday’s 14-0 victory at Whittier Christian.
Dating back to last week, he had a run of five home runs in seven at-bats.
This week, Canon drove in 12 runs and scored 10 times.
He finished with one solo HR, three two-run blasts and a 3-run shot.
