Baseball:
Etiwanda needed a win on Friday to have a chance to play for a Baseline League championship next week.
The Eagles defeated Los Osos, 4-2, and enter the final week of the season trailing first-place Damien by two games.
Nico Neri did the heavy lifting.
Neri went the distance and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits.
Neri issued one walked and struck out four Los Osos batters.
He needed 93 pitches to finish what he started and 64 of those went for strikes.
Austin Ziello and Jake Monsen had RBI singles.
Wyatt Mohler went 2-for-4.
Robert Topete walked, singled and scored.
Mason Overacker singled and Hunter Meyer scored.
Etiwanda got to Aidan Cube for two runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings.
Cube walked two and fanned three.
Conor Donlin surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits.
Donlin went 2 2/3 innings, didn’t issue a walk and struck out one EHS batter.
Anthony Huezo went 3-for-4, scored twice and had one RBI.
Brady Ebel walked, doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Tyler Shigenaka singled and drove in two.
Austen Roellig singled and scored and Tyler McEvoy had one hit in Friday’s win.
Up next: Etiwanda opens its three-game set at Damien on Monday.
Los Osos will battle last-place Chino Hills in a three-game tilt.
