Monrovia Scores Single Runs in Seventh & Eighth Innings to Defeat South Pasadena, 2-1, in Rio Hondo League Thriller

Monrovia was just one out away from falling into second place in the Rio Hondo League standings.

The Wildcats trailed visiting South Pasadena, 1-0, in a first-place showdown.

Monrovia, however, got one run in the bottom of the seventh and another in the eighth to claim a 2-1 victory.

And with three league games remaining, the Wildcats lead South Pasadena and San Marino by one game.

Noah Ellison’s RBI single tied the game at 1-1, and Joshua Griffiths fielder’s choice scored Isaias Hernandez.

Nolan Adams went the first 7 1/3 innings for South Pasadena.

Adams allowed two runs on seven hits.

He walked one and fanned six Monrovia batters.

Ellison had the single and RBI.

Jack Zinn walked and singled.

Griffiths singled and had the RBI ground out.

Jared Cardenas singled twice.

Camden Conklin and Silas Brusseau had one base hit apiece.

Micah Maljian and Isaias Hernandez score one run each in Monday’s win.

Andrew Cito went 5 2/3 innings for Monrovia and allowed one run on three hits.

Cito issued three walks and struck out a pair of Tigers.

Zachary Menlove got the win after getting the last seven outs.

Menlove allowed one hit, walked one and fanned two.

Riffle walked, singled and scored.

Quinn Stirling singled and drove in a run.

Devin Robinson went 2-for-4.
