Baseball:
Northview was three outs away from its biggest Valle Vista League victory of 2023.
The Vikings led Charter Oak, 1-0, in the top of the seventh, and Kiki Villegas was on his way to a shutout.
But five hits, a sacrifice bunt, a walk and an error later, and Charter Oak would claim a 5-1 victory.
With four to play, COHS sits atop the VVL standings at 6-0.
Villegas had a solid outing, but he was saddled with the loss.
Villegas went six-plus innings and allowing two runs on four hits.
He didn’t issue a walk and struck out five.
The Chargers got to Sal Batres for three runs (two earned) on two hits over 1/3 of an inning.
Nathan Arevalos had a two-run single in the seventh.
Anthony Vasquez went 2-for-3 and scored.
Julian Salmon singled in a run.
Moses Medrano and Chris Gonzalez singled, scored and had one RBI apiece.
Josiah Martinez walked and scored, and Ezekial Escalera scored once in Saturday’s win.
Vasquez went six innings for COHS and allowed one run on five hits.
He walked three and fanned five NHS batters.
Athen Malone got the final three outs, including one via strikeout.
Dean Curley had two of Northview’s five hits, and scored the Vikings lone run in the bottom of the first inning.
Dylan Ramos doubled and tripled.
Joey Alcon walked and had an RBI ground out.
Nathan Tome’s single accounted for NHS’ other base hit.
