Girls Athlete of the Week:

Azusa took a big step towards potentially regaining the Montview League title from Duarte.

At the beginning of the week, the Aztecs lone league loss had been an 11-1 thumping at the hands of those same Falcons.

But AHS would finish the week with 12-4 and 7-3 victories over Nogales and Duarte, respectively.

In Tuesday’s win at Nogales, Juliana Canizales went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

She went the distance in the circle, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, and struck out a pair of Nobles.

Two days later, Canizales and Azusa would avenge its March 27th loss at Duarte.

She walked, singled, doubled and scored three runs.

In the circle, Canizales didn’t surrender a single earned run and struck out two Falcons.

With five games remaining over the next two weeks, Azusa and Duarte are tied in the loss column.

Of their five to play, AHS has three home games, while three of the Falcons last four are on the road.
