South Hills Sweeps Walnut After Friday’s 10-1 Victory in Hacienda League Showdown Between First-Place Programs

South Hills took one step closer to a sixth Hacienda League championship in the last seven years.

And they did so with an exclamation mark.

At the beginning of the week, Walnut and South Hills were 4-0 in league games.

But after victories of 4-2 and 10-1, the Huskies have a two-game lead over the rest of the field with four games to be played.

South Hills jumped on their host early with three first-inning runs and never looked back.

Mac Cons was roughed up for five runs (three earned) on six hits over 1 2/3 innings.

He issued a pair of walks and fanned two.

Noah Malone went 2-for-4, scored and drove in a game-high three runs.

Matt Moreno walked, singled, scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Steven Jimenez went 3-for-4, with a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Marcos Rosales had an RBI double.

Dom Prieto walked, singled and scored.

Landon Hansen singled and scored.

Paul Vazquez walked and had two RBIs.

Luke Bauer had an RBI base hit.

Malaki Pelayo walked twice, singled and scored.

And Spencer Froh scored once for the Huskies.

Joseph Moreno (three innings), Daniel Camou (2), Justin Romero (1) and Anthony Gaona (1) combined to shut down the Mustangs, allowing just one run on six hits.

They issued three walks and struck out nine.

Jon Maldonado and Austin Calzadiaz had two hits apiece for Walnut.

Nick Mejia singled and had an RBI.

JJ Rodriguez walked twice and scored.
