Baseball:
Marshall Fundamental remained perfect in Mission Valley League play thanks to Wes Pendleton.
Pendleton was just a D’Angelo Huerta double in the sixth inning away from throwing a perfect game.
Pendleton allowed the one hit, didn’t issue a walk and struck out 10 in a 3-0 victory on Friday.
Christian Ortega got the loss despite allowing three unearned runs on one hit.
Ortega went all six innings, walked one and struck out six Marshall batters.
Derek Esparza had an RBI ground out.
Ben Muro reached base on an error, and eventually scored on a sac fly by Nick Chew.
And Nate Callaway’s RBI double scored Muro to extend the Eagles lead to 3-0.
Up next: The Eagles will host El Monte on Monday at 3:30.
