Baseball:
Anthony Vasquez was so efficient in Monday’s 1-0 victory over visiting Northview that his first and 81st pitch came just an hour and thirty five minutes apart.
Vasquez tossed a five-hit shutout despite his defense committing four errors behind him.
Of his 81 pitches, 60 went for strikes.
Vasquez didn’t issue a walk and struck out eight NHS batters.
Dylan Ramos went 3-for-4, and Jacob Ramos and Joey Ramos had one hit apiece for the Vikings.
Sal Batres was solid on the mound as he always seems to be, but got the loss.
Batres went five innings and allowed one run on one hit.
He walked three and fanned five COHS batters.
The only score of the game came in the bottom of the third.
Samuel Morales led off with a walk and eventually scored on a Diego Ortiz sac fly.
That’s all Vasquez would need.
Ortiz and Athen Malone had one single each to account for the Charter Oak offense.
Vasquez drew a pair of walks at the plate.
Northview’s Justin Hernandez provided a scoreless sixth inning of relief.
He allowed one hit, walked one and fanned one Charger.
Up next: Weather permitting, the Chargers travel to Northview on Wednesday at 3:15.
