Boys Athlete of the Week:

PCC’s Jakob Guardado had about as impactful a week as a JC player could hope to have.

On Monday, the Lancers sophomore salvaged the final game of a three-game set with LBCC.

Guardado went the distance, allowing four runs, didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven in a 6-4 victory over the Vikings.

On Friday, Guardado went 2-for-5, as PCC defeated Mt. SAC, 7-4, to even the best-of-three series at 1-1.

He had an RBI single and a two-run HR.

And to finish the week, the PCC right-hander threw a five-hit shutout in a 9-0 win over the Mounties.

He didn’t walk anyone and fanned six.

In his two wins, Guardado didn’t walk a single batter and set 13 down on strikes.

You don’t have to be a baseball afficionado to understand just how valuable his two complete games were for the program and in particular, the PCC pitching staff.

After unprecedented rain over the last month, JC teams are having to play consecutive days, and pitching will be stretched thin.

At the plate, Guardado is batting .309 with 17 hits, 16 runs, four doubles, one HR and 17 RBIs.

On the mound, he’s 4-2, with a 4.25 ERA, and one save.

Guardado has walked 10 while striking out 38 in 42 1/3 innings.
