Mitchell & Gardner Team up on Mound to Defeat Mt. SAC, 7-4, on Friday; Garcia & Guardado Homer for Lancers

College Baseball:

PCC evened its best-of-three South Coast Conference series with Mt. SAC on Friday afternoon.

After dropping game one, 7-0, on Thursday, the Lancers rode the arms of Coleman Mitchell and Rider Gardner to a 7-4 victory at Brookside Park.

Mitchell went six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.

He walked one and fanned a pair of Mounties.

Mt. SAC got two runs on three hits and a walk off Ben Griffith in 2/3 of an inning.

Rider Gardner, though, the area’s leader in saves, got the final seven outs to earn save No. 7.

Elijah Pelayo went 2-for-4, including a 2-run shot in the seventh inning to pull the Mounties to within 5-4 of PCC.

CJ Ontiveros walked twice from the leadoff spot, singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Joey Rossetti singled and scored.

Elias Gomez walked, singled and scored.

Travis Hobbensiefken singled and doubled.

Former South Hills pitcher Ray Northey was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits over three innings.

He walked three and struck out two.

PCC got one run on five hits over 2 2/3 innings from Trent Merrill, and two runs on one hit and a walk off Joey Peralta.

Patrick Garcia gave the Lancers a 2-0 lead with his third-inning home run.

Aryonis Harrison drove in his little brother, Amaris, on a sac fly, and the Lancers led 3-0.

Jake Trabbie singled and doubled and drove in Tommy Castillo in the fourth inning.

Jakob Guardado continues to contribute with his arm and bat.

On Friday, Guardado had an RBI single in the sixth inning.

In the eighth, Guardado put the game away with a two-run HR.

And it will be Guardado on the hill tomorrow in the series finale at noon.

Aryonis went 1-for-3, with a walk, RBI and two runs, while Amaris walked, had two singles and scored.

Trabbie singled twice, doubled and drove in a run.

Guardado went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Toshiki Kuriya walked twice and scored.

Up next: Mt. SAC travels to Brookside on Saturday at noon to decide the series.
