Baseball:
Marshall Fundamental remained unbeaten in Mission Valley League play on Monday.
But the Eagles had to rally late to do so.
Trailing 7-5 in the top of the seventh, Marshall tied it on RBI singles from Nate Callaway and Ethan Sparks.
In the eighth, Trevor Lain singled and would come around to score the eventual game winner on a Gabrielino error.
Jordan Garcia got the loss after allowing three unearned runs on four hits over his 4 1/3 innings of work.
He walked one and fanned three.
Julian Sandoval was touched up for five runs (three earned) on four hits.
Sandoval issued five walks and struck out a pair of Eagles.
Derek Esparza walked, singled and scored three runs.
Wes Pendleton walked, had a pair of singles and two RBIs.
Sparks finished 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Ben Muro singled and scored.
Callaway had two RBIs and scored once.
Lain walked, singled, had an RBI and as mentioned, he scored the game-winning run.
Ryan Pandullo walked and scored.
Nick Chew walked and singled in the win.
Ethan Sparks got the win after going four scoreless and hitless innings.
Sparks didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven.
Caleb Delgado provided three innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Delgado walked a pair and struck out two GHS batters.
Garcia doubled, scored a pair of runs and had one RBI.
Ethan Tran walked, singled twice, drove in a pair and scored.
Sandoval went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run.
Up next: The Eagles will host El Monte on Wednesday if Mother Nature cooperates.
