College Baseball:

PCC was on the verge of being swept by Long Beach City College.

The Vikings won the first two of their best-of-three SCC series with the Lancers, and they scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning on Tuesday at Brookside Park.

And while Jakob Guardado may have bent a little, the PCC sophomore certainly did not break.

Guardado would go the distance in a 6-4 win.

He surrendered four runs on 11 hits, including a pair of home runs.

But he didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven.

Just as important, Guardado bought Pat McGee’s pitching staff a couple days of rest, as the Lancers have three this week with SCC power, Mt. SAC.

Malik Clayton hit a 2-run shot in the top of the first to give LBCC a 2-0 lead.

Ryan Geck went 3-for-4, including an RBI single in the sixth and a solo HR in the ninth.

Justin Santoyo and Evan Vazquez singled and scored one run apiece.

Olin Snakenborg and William Schwab had two hits each for the Vikings.

Max Sasaki went four innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits.

He walked two and fanned a pair of PCC batters.

Jon Lopez got the loss, going 1/3 of an inning and allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits.

Jake Trabbie continues to mash, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs.

Aryonis Harrison walked and scored on a wild pitch to give PCC a 3-2 lead in the fifth.

Toshiki Kuriya walked, singled twice, scored and drove in Trabbie in the seventh to help the Lancers regain the lead at 4-3.

Tommy Castillo singled, doubled and scored.

Jack Esguerra singled and drove in a run.

Partrick Garcia extended PCC’s lead to 6-3 in the seventh inning.

Up next: PCC is scheduled to host Mt. SAC today (Tuesday) in the first of three this week with the Mounties.

But it sounds like Mother Nature may push that back a couple days to Thursday.

If that’s the case, PCC and MSAC would play Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Friday being at Mt. SAC.
