Boys Basketball:

Glendora picked the wrong night to shoot 13-percent from 3-point land, and 35-percent from the field.

But they did, and Palm Desert headed back home on the 10 East with a 49-48 victory in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2A playoffs.

The Tartans were 2-of-15 from 3, and made 15-of-43 from the field.

It also didn’t help that leading scorer, Colton Gray, had been home since Saturday with a fever, but the Tartans themselves won’t make excuses.

In fact, Coach Gordon Hamlow put it pretty bluntly.

“We have to hit shots and we didn’t,” he said via text message.

Steve Shuffleton had a game-high 18 points for Palm Desert.

Brent Clemmer scored 10 points and Darius Enshae had eight in the win.

Chris Lee led GHS with 10 points.

Ian Wang, Landon Barragan and Max Hilgenfeldt scored eight points apiece.

Barragan had five rebounds and Hilgenfeldt grabbed two.

Gray contributed seven points and nine rebounds.

While it’s a disppointing end, Glendora did earn a share of their first league title in eight years and they have the core of their stars returning, including Gray, Lee, Wang, Hilgenfeldt, Benji Holt and Elijah Regan.
