Girls Basketball:
No one deserved this moment more than Ellie Chen.
For two years, Chen had to battle through injuries, but she’s back for her senior season and when La Salle needed a clutch shot, she stepped up.
Trailing by one point and with seconds to play, Ellie’s younger sister, Audrey Chen, got her the ball in the corner.
Ellie hit nothing but net on a 3-pointer and the Lancers sent St. Anthony back to Long Beach with a 65-63 overtime loss.
Ellie hit both of La Salle’s 3’s on Thursday night and finished with 11 points.
Audrey Chen led all scorers with 20 points, and Kaden Cortes had 14.
Ryann Bennett led the Saints with 18 points.
Laila Hughes chipped in with 15 points in a losing effort.
La Salle’s Casey Higgins provided 10 points and 17 big rebounds.
Up next: The Lancers host Rolling Hills Prep on Saturday at 5 in a nonleague contest.
On Sunday at noon, the playoff pairings will be released.
