Boys Soccer:

Winning a championship is never easy, or at least it shouldn’t be.

And such was the case for the Maranatha boys soccer program.

The Minutemen scored a pair of second-half goals to edge their host from Whittier Christian, 2-1, on Wednesday.

George Peterson and Aren Tatevossian both scored off of assists from Miles Romero.

Lorenzo Rodriguez had four saves in goal, and Kurtis Kwon blocked one shot for the Minutemen.

MHS’ only league blemish from a perfect run in Olympic League play was a 1-1 tie with Valley Christian back on January 6th.

Maranatha handed the Defenders their only league loss, 3-1, on January 20th.

It was the first time the Minutemen had defeated Valley Christian in five years.

Congratulations to Coach Walker Haynes, Justin Wright and their players for making history.

Up next: MHS will get its playoff schedule on Saturday morning at 9.
