Boys Athlete of the Week:
There are moments in an athlete’s journey that can help define their legacy.
And while Chris Lee’s athletic career is far from over or defined, he added a chapter this past week that made everyone proud.
In the third quarter of Wednesday’s 68-39 victory over Alta Loma, the Glendora junior crashed into a Braves’ player going after a loose ball.
The result included tremendous swelling around his right eye and cheek.
Lee wanted back in, but Coach Gordon Hamlow sent him to the hospital where he received eight stitches.
Two nights later, the Tartans headed to Colony and had a first-place showdown with a program that had won all nine previous Palomares League encounters with GHS.
He was a game-time decision, and thankfully the idea of wearing a protective mask allowed Lee to start and star in a 62-54 victory.
GHS led throughout except for approximately the first 20 seconds of the second quarter.
Lee had a team-high 18 points, including a 4-of-5 night from behind the 3-point arc.
Glendora and Colony now share the Palomares League’s top spot with two regular season games to play.
Lee’s emotion after the game said how much that victory meant to the junior and his teammates.
