Boys Soccer:
Perhaps the only thing more satisfying than beating Valley Christian for the first time in five years is taking over sole possession of first place in the Olympic League standings.
And that’s exactly what the Minutemen did on Friday.
Jacob Brantingham scored first for Maranatha in the 18th minute.
It was the lone score of the first half for either program.
George Peterson scored both second-half goals.
Miles Romero had two assists (Brantingham’s goal and Peterson’s first goal)
Sam Yakteen assisted Peterson’s second goal on Friday.
Lorenzo Rodriguez had three saves in goal for the Minutemen.
Quotable:
Maranatha coach, Walker Haynes: “Maranatha has not beaten Valley Christian in five years, and getting this historic league win in front of a home crowd on Friday was special. I couldn’t be more proud of how the boys stepped up and battled against a Valley Christian side that is always tough.”
