Girls Basketball:
When La Salle opened its 2023 Del Rey League schedule with a five-point loss at St. Paul, some might have wondered what was wrong with the Lancers.
The defending league and CIF-SS champions had lost two of their last three games after starting the season 15-0.
Fast forward 17 days, and La Salle in not only on a five-game win streak, they just paid St. Paul back, 47-44, on Thursday night.
Even better news?
The Lancers now sit atop the Del Rey League standings at 4-1 with Bishop Montgomery, and La Salle already has a road victory over the Knights.
But back to Thursday’s three-point victory over a very scrappy St. Paul program.
Casey Higgins and Audrey Chen had 15 points apiece.
Gloria Barrera led St. Paul with 14 points, and both Danni Alvarez and Loretta Aguirre-Colmeneco chipped in with 10 points apiece.
The Lady Lancers and Swordsmen hit four 3-pointers apiece.
La Salle was 5-of-10 from the free-throw line, while St. Paul was 14-of-22.
Up next: The Lancers travel to Campbell Hall on Tuesday at 6 in a nonleague contest.
