Boys Athlete of the Week:
Walnut point guard, Malik Khouzam, is one tough and talented dude.
Just over three weeks ago, the Mustangs’ senior lost his sister in a tragic car accident.
And while his heart is heavy, Khouzam is honoring his sister by working tirelessly on and off the basketball court, including the classroom.
This past week, the Mustangs went 3-0.
On Wednesday, Walnut defeated South Hills, 75-33, and two days later, the Mustangs claimed a 76-50 victory over Los Altos.
WHS would cap its week with a 74-56 triumph of Arcadia on Saturday afternoon to earn victory No. 20 of the season.
If all of that wasn’t good enough, Malik became the program’s all-time leading scorer on Saturday, and now has 1,476 career points.
His stat line for the week looks like this:
Wed vs South Hills: 26 points.
Fri vs Los Altos: 24 points & eight assists.
Sat vs Arcadia: 23 points, eight assists & four steals.
Up next: The Mustangs travel to Wilson on Wednesday and host first-place Diamond Bar on Friday.
Both games are set for 6:45.
The Brahmas handed the Mustangs their only league loss, and only the second setback this season for Walnut.
We’re all hoping that Malik and his family are buoyed by the love and prayers sent their way by friends and strangers alike.
