Girls Basketball:
La Salle was 40 seconds from opening Del Rey League play 0-2.
The Lancers trailed by three points at Bishop Montgomery on Tuesday night.
But Scott Wiard’s gritty group would rally late for a 44-43 victory.
Audrey Chen was fouled and made both of her free-throw attempts to pull within 43-42.
La Salle would foul Bishop Montgomery, who missed the front end of a 1-and-1.
Audrey Chen got the rebound, drove the length of the court and scored with eight seconds to play.
The Knights heaved the ball from 40 feet out and the Lancers handed Bishop Montgomery its first league setback.
Kaden Cortes led La Salle with 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Reese Wong and Audrey Chen scored nine points apiece in the win.
Jordin Blackmon had a game-high 15 points for Bishop Montgomery.
Up next: The Lancers host Serra on Thursday at 7.
