Girls Basketball:

Flintridge Prep had a memorable Friday night.

Before the game, the school honored the Wolves co-head coaches, Jayme Kiyomura-Chan, and her cousin, Kevin Kiyomura.

It was slightly belated, but absolutely well deserved and earned.

Flintridge Prep crushed visiting Mayfield, 70-10, which upped the Wolves Prep League record to 3-0.

Ashley Chea scored a game-high 20 points, and had eight rebounds and five steals.

Chea had four of Prep’s six 3-pointers.

Maddie Smith was just two assists from a triple-double.

Smith finished with 16 points, 13 boards and eight assists.

Akemi Fu chipped in with 13 points and 12 rebounds of her own.

Gigi Mastras added eight points and six rebounds in a winning effort.

Since taking over the program, Jayme and Kevin have an overall record of 217-50, and that includes a 101-8 mark in Prep League games.

The Wolves won eight consecutive league titles, and had a 72-game league win streak that wasn’t snapped until the 2021-22 season.

Flintridge Prep has gone to the quarterfinal round or better eight times in 10 years, including title-game appearances in 2016 and 2018.

The CIF-SS championship in 2016 was the program’s first.

Congrats to Jayme and Kevin.

They are both great coaches and more importantly, better people.

Up next: The Wolves battle Notre Dame on Monday at 7 to open La Canada Tournament play.
