Thanks to Alex Veliz for the photos & the Lancers’ program for this recap:
Boys Soccer:
What a start it has been for the La Salle boys soccer program.
After Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Crescenta Valley in the Burroughs Tournament’s championship game, the Lancers are now 7-0.
Camden Brown’s goal with three minutes to play, off an assist by Cabral Corvelo, turned out to be the game winner.
Brown had to share hero status with sophomore goalie, Julian Gomez.
Gomez had eight critical saves to shut the Falcons out.
At the 29th annual Ralph Brandt Tournament, the Lancers claimed victories over La Canada (5-4), Burroughs (2-0), North Valley (2-1), Sylmar (2-1) and Saturday’s 1-0 triumph of CV to hand the Falcons their first loss of the 2022-23 season.
The following is a summary by the La Salle program:
Game 5 (Final):
Opponent – Crescenta Valley
Score – 1-0
Goals – Caden Brown (1)
Assists – Cabral Corvelo (1)
Saves – Julian Gomez (8)
Tournament MVP: Cabral Corvelo: he embodies the saying “cometh the hour, cometh the man.” He absolutely turned up at his team’s most important moments and was the key difference every time he was on the field. He was the spark that ignited our team and was a true leader for his team on and off the field. He provided a number of crucial assists and goals, including a tie-breaking assist that split the CVHS defense to break the deadlock.
Championship Game MVP – Julian Gomez: The win would have been impossible if not for goalkeeper Julian Gomez. Julian stepped up and provided an answer every time the CVHS offense would pepper his goal. All throughout the game, Julian kept his team in the game with a clean sheet until his offense finally rewarded his championship MVP performance with three minutes left in the game to win 1-0. He racked up a total of eight saves in the final.
Other top performers: Mak Hadziomanovic continued his scoring form and extended his goal tally to seven for the season leading the Lancers on offense this season
Thomas Espinoza: provided the goals and assists in important games leading the Lancers in goals with four this tournament.
Myles Pryor-Gainey and Christopher Bahou: you can’t just pick one of the LSHS center backs, they both were equally as impressive in the aerial game and were truly a wall this tournament with both chipping in a goal each for their team.
