Football:
Two area programs will play for a CIF State championship next weekend.
On Friday, Muir (9-6) drove 240 miles to Palo Verde Valley High School (13-2) in Blythe, and defeated the Yellow Jackets, 33-7, in the CIF State Division 5AA So Cal Regional.
With a D-5AA state championship at stake, the Mustangs will travel 304 miles to take on Hughson this Saturday at 6.
The Huskies (12-2) edged Nippon Christian, 31-28, in the Northern California Regional.
Hughson is eight miles from Modesto off the 99 freeway, and they have a population of just over 7,500 people.
San Gabriel (12-3) outlasted Kennedy, 46-34, in the CIF State Division 6A So Cal Regional.
The Matadors only had to make a 33-mile road trip tonight (Saturday).
This Saturday, however, SGHS will take a 216-mile ride to Atascadero.
The Greyhounds (10-4) shut out Colusa, 21-0, in their Northern California Regional contest.
