Boys Basketball:
Damien went 4-1 and earned fifth place at the Sunny Hills Tournament.
The Spartans, who are finding their identity after the graduation of their starting five and key bench players from the 2021 state title team, finished with an impressive 51-50 victory over La Mirada.
Damien outscored LMHS, 29-18, in the second half.
Nate Garcia had a career-high 28 points to lead DHS, including 18 in the decisive second half.
Xavier Clinton and Eli Garner chipped in with seven points apiece.
Julian Gomez led La Mirada with 20 points.
Up next: The Spartans will battle King-Drew next Saturday at 9 am.
