Boys Soccer:

Maranatha met up Pacifica Christian in its season opener.

And it’s the first showdown since the Minutemen claimed a 3-0 victory in last season’s postseason.

This time around MHS defeated the Sea Wolves, 6-1.

Pacifica Christian did get out to a 1-0 lead, but it would be all Maranatha from that moment going forward.

Senior Jaden Brainard tied the game at 1-1, when he was on the end of a free kick 35 yards out and sent it off the crossbar where it carromed down and into the goal.

Aran Tatevossian intercepted a pass and drove the ball into the side netting.

That goal would prove to be the game winner, but the Minutemen were just getting started.

Senior Josiah Topalian was fouled in the box, and the ensuing penalty kick was delivered by senior Jay Lee.

Eleven minutes later, Lee would get on the scoreline again with an assist to freshman Luca Youssefian.

A final pair of goals came in the last five minutes of regulation as senior Jacob Brantingham fed his teammate senior Daniel Imasdounian in the box.

Imasdounian returned the favor a minute later, making it 5-1 at the whistle.

The Minutemen are back in action on Thursday, away at Mark Keppel. Kickoff is at 5pm.

Up next: MHS travels to Keppel on Thursday evening at 5.
