Girls Athlete of the Week:
Stella Hsieh finished her run at Maranatha on a high note.
That doesn’t just include her individual success.
She became the leader of the program’s youngest and most inexperienced roster in at least a decade.
And somehow, Hsieh and her teammates went undefeated en route to another Olympic League championship.
But it was their run in the CIF-SS Division 4 team bracket that spoke volumes about the grit of the Lady Minutemen.
MHS opened the playoffs with consecutive 11-7 victories over Quartz Hills and Redlands East Valley.
In the quarterfinal round, Maranatha edged Paloma Valley on games, 82-80, to earn a spot in the D-4 semifinals against top-seeded Keppel.
The Aztecs, who cruised to the Division 4 championship, defeated the Minutemen, 12-6.
MHS, though, tied for most games won against Keppel on their run to the D-4 title.
Over that postseason run, Hsieh went 10-2, including a 9-0 combined record in the first three rounds.
Six of those nine sets came via scores of 6-0.
Hsieh, the Olympic League MVP, still has the CIF-SS Individuals ahead of her before her prep career is officially over.
