Football:
Maybe a first-round road game was just the kick in the (butt) that St. Francis needed.
After failing to clinch an outright championship last week at Loyola, SFHS had to settle for a three-way share of the Angelus League title.
And the 1-point loss cost them about 74 miles.
The Golden Knights traveled to Victorville and the D-5 opener was never in doubt.
St. Francis led 21-0 after the first quarter and 48-7 at the half.
Jack Jacobs opened the scoring when he hit Jett McCullough on a 20-yard TD pass.
John Calmette doubled the lead after his 3-yard TD run.
Devyn Turner scored the first of his three TD’s in the first quarter.
Turner’s 1-yard run gave St. Francis that 21-0 lead.
Jacobs hit Antonio Merlos on a 4-yard scoring strike.
Turner finished with TD runs of 1 and 6 yards.
Adam Sandoval’s scoop-and-score TD accounted for the other SFHS TD.
Up next: The Golden Knights will host top-seeded Villa Park on Friday.
The Spartans (6-5) defeated visiting Murrieta Mesa, 42-7, on Friday.
