College Football:

Citrus College cruised to a 40-14 victory over visiting West LA in Saturday’s American Metro Conference contest.

The Owls scored the game’s first 33 points and improved to 8-0.

Citrus had a 472-260 advantage in total offense, and that included a 327-100 surge through the air.

As always, Adam Urena ran the Owls offense smoothly.

The program’s career (passing) TD leader completed 20-of-29 for 287 yards.

The Owls sophomore had three TD’s and was picked once.

Robert Vega had a big day, with four catches for 92 yards.

And that included TD receptions of 4, 35 and 37 yards.

Urena’s third TD to Vega tied the single season record of 27 touchdown passes.

Arden Napier had a team-high five catches for 61 yards, and Austin Urena caught three passes for 33 yards.

Paul Cooper had a 41-yard reception in Saturday’s win.

Elijah Finney rushed for 115 yards on 16 carries, including TD runs of 3 and 49 yards.

It marked just the second time all season that a Citrus running back surpassed the 100-yard mark (Marshon Smith), and the two scores were a first for the Owls in 2022.

Finney also caught three passes for 33 yards.

Jonathan Guerrero gained 37 yards on nine carries.

West LA’s Malik Norman had a game-high 148 yards rushing on 26 carries.

Norman had a 4-yard TD in the third quarter, and after David Oliveros’ 4-yard TD run in the fourth period, Norman converted on the 2-point conversion.

Cassell Wiggins was 9-of-18 for 55 yards, didn’t throw a TD and was picked by Jonathan Calderon.

Cody Stordahl had a team-high six tackles for Citrus.

Elijah Robinson and Joseph Lopez tallied five tackles apiece.

Up next: Citrus travels to Glendale next Saturday in a battle of 3-0 American Metro Conference programs.

The kickoff is slated for 1.

Quotable:

Citrus quarterback, Adam Urena: “I feel like the offense did great. Our offensive lineman were perfect. We have great receivers, and I love it. Every time Robert got a 1-on-1, he did his job and won his matchup. Having my team’s support means everything to me. I love them all. We have a true family here. I also want to give Elijah Finney a shoutout. He had a great game and is a big star on offense.”
