College Football:

How would Mt. SAC respond to last week’s 2-point loss at Riverside City College?

It was the Mounties first setback in 2022, and it took three overtime periods to decide a winner.

Fast forward a week, and Mt. SAC dominated Chaffey in all three phases of the game.

The Mounties left Rancho Cucamonga with a 38-6 victory.

MSAC had a 450-228 advantage in total offense, and they tallied 30 first downs, while Chaffey could manage just 16.

Isaiah Dickerson led a Mounties run game that went off for 209 yards rushing.

Dickerson gained 105 yards on 16 carries, and that included TD runs of 1 and 9 yards.

Adrian Boyd had eight carries for 81 yards.

Boyd’s 5-yard TD run with 43 seconds to play in the first quarter gave the Mounties a 14-0 lead.

Ike Udengwu completed 15-of-26 for 204 yards.

Udengwu hooked up with Kevion Sophus on a 19-yard TD pass, and the MSAC quarterback had a 1-yard TD run as well.

Jaden Allen had game highs in receptions (5) and yards (80).

Xavier Rawls caught three passes for 50 yards.

Chaffey’s lone score came in the third period.

Trailing 28-0, Josiah Barron caught a 21-yard TD pass from Nicholas Poulos.

Poulos went 15 of 34 for 161 yards and the score.

Diego Esqueda seems to be the area’s most reliable college kicker.

On Saturday, Esqueda was 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts.

And he finished off the game’s scoring with a 47-yard field goal with 3:20 to play.

Defensively, Toalei Lefau had a game-high eight tackles.

Anthony Hebert finished with seven tackles for the Mounties.

Up next: Mt. Sac will host Palomar on Saturday at 6.

With two games to play, the Mounties trail Riverside and Cerritos by one game.

MSAC closes out the regular season in two weeks at Cerritos.
