Football:
For the first time in 2022, Rio Hondo Prep was on the wrong side of a scoreboard.
Brentwood, who is ranked 173 spots higher than the Kares by MaxPreps, defeated RHP, 32-7, in a Gold Coast League contest.
Being who they are and who they’re coached by, no one on the Kares side will make excuses.
And as Coach Mark Carson said, ‘they just beat us.’
Brentwood took a 7-0 lead when Frank Lewis sprinted in from 12 yards out.
RHP would answer right back, as 54 seconds later, Armando Carbajal connected with Nate Curtis on a 66-yard TD to tie the game at 7-7.
The Eagles, though, would outscore the Kares, 25-0, the rest of the way.
MJ Coleman had 13-and-53-yard TD catches from Boone Lourd.
Lourd completed 14-of-19 for 228 yards and did not turn the ball over.
Lourd’s 1-yard TD run capped the Brentwood scoring in the fourth quarter.
RHP out-rushed Brentwood, 149-94, but the Eagles had a 322-244 advantage in total offense.
Carbajal completed 5-of-8 for 85 yards and the TD to Curtis.
Nate Curtis led RHP with 51 yards rushing on seven carries.
Ryan McCulloch carried the ball six times for 47 yards.
Brentwood had a near 10-minute advantage in the time of possession battle.
Up next: RHP travels to Campbell Hall next Friday in their regular-season finale.
