Football:

How would Ayala respond to last Friday’s three-point loss to undefeated Charter Oak in the Mountain West League opener?

Just how you’d expect an AJ Gracia coached team to respond.

The Bulldogs defense buckled down and held Alta Loma scoreless for three quarters, and AHS cruised to a 30-14 victory.

Wyatt Summerford, Dominic Alloway, and Tommy Tucay each picked off an ALHS pass.

Ayala also rode the leg of their kicker, Nick Lane, whose punts and kickoffs gave AHS good field position.

Lane booted three field goals as well.

The Ayala offense came on strong in the second half, as the Bulldogs rushed for 212 yards on 28 carries.

Anthony Hernandez rushed for 117 yards on 12 carries.

And Jacob Munoz gained 73 yards on 10 carries.

Bryan Wilson completed 8-of-19 passes for 134 yards and 1 TD.

The Ayala receiving corps had eight catches for 134 yards and a TD.

Alloway led the way with three catches for 78 yards and a TD.

Hernandez caught two passes for 15 yards.

Elijah Ybanez had a 20-yard reception, Vincent Garcia had 1 catch for 15 yards, and Drew Amico caught one pass for six yards.

Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Bonita on Thursday in the regular season finale.

The AHS-BHS winner will secure second place in the Mountain West League.
