Covina Pulls Away Late in Saturday’s 42-24 Victory Over Montclair; Colts Win Third Straight & Got 3 Total TD’s From Duronslet

To say Covina has found its stride offensively would be an understatement.

The Colts began the 2022 season scoring 14, 14 and 12 points in consecutive losses to South Hills, Diamond Bar and Northview, respectively.

Fast forward three games, and CHS has defeated Bell Gardens, Sierra Vista and Montclair by a combined margin of 114-36.

The most recent was a 42-24 nonleague victory over Montclair on Saturday night.

Covina used a 14-0 surge in the fourth quarter at Covina District Field to pull away from the Cavaliers.

Sophomore Jake Duronslet was an efficient 13-of-16 for 134 yards.

Duronslet threw a TD pass to Ronnie Ropke and did not turn the ball over.

Duronslet also led the Colts with 86 rushing yards on 14 carries, and that included a pair of TD’s.

Joseph Rangel had carries 13 for 71 yards, and one score.

Joaquin Barragan rushed for 25 yards and had one of the four Colts TD’s that came via the ground game.

Ropke led CHS with six catches for 67 yards, and the one receiving TD from Saturday’s win.

Ropke also had a key interception for Covina.

Abraham Perez caught four passes for 41 yards.

Diego Manriquez led the Colts defense with nine tackles.

Jason Nwaka had five tackles, and Joaquin Barragan finished with four.

Up next: Covina and Claremont (3-2) will meet on Friday at Covina District Field in the final nonleague game of the 2022 regular season.
