Thanks to South Hills coach Calderon, & Claremont’s Hile for these game notes
Football:
Since starting the season 2-0, South Hills has now lost its last four games.
On Friday, the Huskies fell, 28-13, at Claremont High School.
But don’t think for a moment this program isn’t heading in the right direction.
South Hills hadn’t won a game since 2019, and while it will take some time to get where they want to be, Jacob Calderon seems to be the right man to lead this program into the future.
And for the record, Claremont coach Shane Hile was impressed, saying South Hills is a ‘scrappy team that battles’ (until the final whistle).
As for the Wolfpack, it’s no surprise that Caden Campuzano led the way in another victory.
Campuzano carried the ball 14 times for 60 yards, and that included two rushing TD’s.
The Wolfpack captain also caught three passes for 72 yards and a score.
Nathan Giles was 10-of-15 for 150 yards, and the TD toss to Campuzano.
Zack Leeper was his favorite target.
Leeper caught eight passes for 120 yards.
South Hills junior Gary San Angelo had a big game.
San Angelo amassed 131 of the Huskies 211 yards of total offense.
San Angelo had two catches for 63 yards, including a 22-yard TD reception, and 68 yards rushing on 13 carries.
Noah Gonzales gained 22 yards on eight carries, and he scored on a 9-yard TD run.
Tyler Casal carried the ball seven times for 31 yards.
Javion Boone led the SHHS defense with seven tackles, and Landon Hansen had five.
The Huskies defense stopped CHS on three fourth-down plays, and forced a fumble.
Jadakiss Vaokakala finished with four tackles, including two for loss.
Up next: South Hills and Claremont will both be in action this Friday.
The Huskies travel to Don Lugo (2-2), and the Wolfpack head to Covina District Field to battle Covina High (3-3).
