Maranatha is 5-0-1 After Friday’s 35-27 Victory Over Whittier Christian in Cottonwood League Opener

Maranatha’s unbeaten streak continued on Friday night.

In a game that was nowhere near as close as the final score, the Minutemen defeated Whittier Christian, 35-27, in the Cottonwood League opener at Whittier College.

MHS is now 5-0-1 in 2022.

Maranatha forced a three-and-out on the first drive of the game, and the Minutemen would score in three plays.

Miles O’Malley gave MHS a 7-0 lead on a 16-yard TD run.

After another three-and-out, O’Malley doubled the advantage on a 9-yard TD run.

Connor Patterson took a bubble pass for a 26-yard TD and the MHS lead was 21-0.

Michael Martin gave the Minutemen even more breathing room when he found Samuel Funches on a 65-yard TD pass.

O’Malley would score a third TD and finished the game with 123 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Martin completed 12-of-18 for 189 yards and the two scores.

Patterson caught three passes for 95 yards and a TD.

Carter Shupper led the MHS defense with 11 tackles, including two for loss, and Jacob Neely had eight tackles.
