Girls Volleyball:
After dropping the first set of Friday’s Mission Valley League contest with visiting El Monte, the Marshall Fundamental girls volleyball program stormed back for a four-game victory.
The Eagles won by scores of 16-25, 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19.
Marshall is now 8-2 in MVL play with two matches to go.
The Eagles coach, Jeffrey Thai said, “our bench came through today when our libero was having an off day. Kayla Estrada, Isabella Vanegas, and Jayli Figueroa carried the passing load for us today.”
Lauren Sandoval finished with 29 assists, two kills and a pair of blocks.
Evelyn Mkhitarian added 10 kills, two aces and two blocks.
Journey Blueford chipped in with seven kills and two aces and Alana Haigh contributed five kills.
Alexis Delgado finished with a team-high 12 kills to go with one ace.
And Rory Lorenz provided eight kills and two blocks.
Quotable:
Marshall Fundamental coach, Jeffrey Thai: “Today was a strange day. Quite a few players confessed they were nervous coming home and playing in front of their friends and family. After being on the road for six games with minimal fans, we were welcomed back with a near full house and I want to thank everyone for coming out to support us. El Monte played extremely well today, but our players were able to rally back after giving up the first set. We definitely have some more kinks to clean up as we get closer to the playoffs.”
Up next: The Eagles close out the regular season next week with a pair of matches versus Rosemead and South El Monte.
