Football:
After beginning the 2022 season with three consecutive losses, the Covina High School football program has won their last two games.
On Thursday, Sierra Vista’s Eric Terrazes scored on a 2-yard rushing TD in the first quarter, and Alexis Alonso rumbled into the end zone from five yards out in the second period.
The Dons would take a 12-8 lead.
Covina’s defense, however, would shut out SVHS the rest of the way, and CHS claimed a 31-12 victory at Covina District Field.
Joseph Rangel’s 3-yard TD and 2-point conversion run gave the Colts an 8-6 lead.
After Alonso scored in the second quarter for Sierra Vista, Da-mion Yeargin caught an 8-yard TD pass from Jake Duronslet, and thanks to a Duronslet 2-point run, CHS led 16-12.
Adrian Rachal would take a Dons kickoff back 82 yards for a TD, and Duronslet capped the Covina scoring with a 37-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Terrazes was a beast for Sierra Vista.
He carried the ball 43 times for 213 yards and the TD.
But the rest of the SVHS offense combined for just 80 yards.
Rangel led CHS with 90 yards on 12 carries, and Duronslet gained 39 yards on four carries.
As mentioned, both Rangel and Duronslet had rushing TD’s.
Duronslet completed 5-of-10 for 79 yards.
He threw one TD pass and no interceptions.
Rangel caught two passes for 25 yards, and Yeargin had two receptions for 26 yards.
Ronnie Ropke would reel in a 28-yard pass from Duronslet.
In spite of a convincing victory, Siera Vista had 21 first downs to 14 for CHS.
And the Dons won the time of possession battle by an approximate margin of 34-14 (in minutes).
Up next: The Colts will battle Montclair (1-3) next Saturday at Covina District Field.
