If someone were to tell you that Rio Hondo Prep had just a 396-336 advantage over Savanna in total offense, it would be logical to conclude that it was a competitive game.
But RHP was in control throughout Thursday’s 53-20 victory at Savanna.
The Kares scored the game’s first 20 points and never looked back.
Armando Carbajal had five total TD’s.
Carbajal completed 4-of-8 for 185 yards.
The Kares’ junior threw TD passes to Ryan McCulloch (54 yards), Alex Mustain (65) and Cologoro Chico (30).
He also carried the ball five times for 55 yards, and that included TD runs of 34 and 36 yards.
Nate Curtis had an 80-yard TD run for RHP.
Noah Penunuri’s 12-yard TD run gave the Kares a 7-0 lead just two minutes and 15 seconds into the game.
Savanna’s Brian Uriostegui had a game-high 187 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Uriostegui had TD runs of 20, 74 and 15 yards.
Rainn Pollock had a game-high 8.5 tackles, while Cody Nelson and Noah Lange tallied five tackles each.
Nate Curtis and Armando Carbajal intercepted passes for the Kares.
Up next: RHP will host Glendale next Friday at 7.
