Football:

The 2022 season might be just three games in for the Claremont High School football program, but the Wolfpack are already showing their mettle.

As most know, CHS had a week-zero bye and then Norte Vista canceled the first scheduled game, because of COVID-19 related issues for the Braves.

On September 2nd, the Wolfpack finally got a chance to play, and they dropped a 35-0 hammer on visiting Tustin.

Last weekend, Claremont fell, 28-7, at undefeated Colony.

That gets us to Friday night.

CHS headed to Alta Loma to face a Braves program that began the year 3-1, and against an offense that had scored 106 points.

The Claremont defense, however, would hold Alta Loma to 20 points under their season average, and headed home with a 24-7 victory.

In fact, the Wolfpack D held ALHS scoreless in the second half.

Brandon Cole led the way with nine tackles and broke up a pass.

Kenny Ford intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble for CHS.

Caden Campuzano and Ty Labbe had six tackles apiece in Friday’s win.

Offensively, Campuzano anchored the ground game with 112 yards on 24 carries and one TD.

Brandon Cole gained 56 yards on just four carries.

Nathan Giles completed 8-of-17 for 74 yards.

Up next: CHS will host Bonita on Friday night.

The Bearcats (3-2) edged Los Osos, 28-27, thanks to a Daniel Andrade to Noah Mikhail 30-yard TD with 1:02 to play in Friday’s back-and-forth thriller.

Records: Claremont (2-1); Alta Loma (3-2)
