Football:

For the fifth consecutive year, the Ayala football program has defeated Chino Hills in the Battle for the Bone rivalry game.

But it didn’t come easy, and there was plenty of drama.

Trailing 20-13, and with 1:03 to play, Favian Vasquez scored his second rushing TD of the game.

The Huskies were an extra-point kick from a likelihood of sending the game into overtime.

But CHHS rolled the dice and did not convert on its two-point pass attempt.

The Bulldogs escaped with the 20-19 victory, and AHS improved to 5-0.

Both programs got some clutch play from their special teams.

Chino Hills kicker, Orion Jennings, had a pair of field goals and an extra-point to account for seven points.

Ayala’s Nick Lane was outstanding as well.

Lane had a pair of 42-yard field goals, the second of which extended the Ayala lead to 20-13 in the fourth quarter.

Lane also had a pair of punts that pinned CHHS inside the 10-yard line, including one that ended up inside the Huskies 5.

Dominic Alloway had a 31-yard TD run for Ayala, and he had one catch for 22 yards.

The Bulldogs rushed for 131 yards on 38 carries.

Marquis Monroe led the way with 57 yards on 20 carries, and Anthony Hernandez gained 31 yards on nine carries.

Bryan Wilson had a rare off night, as the junior completed just 2-of-13 pass attempts for 18 yards, and he was picked twice.

Wilson carried the ball eight times for 12 yards.

Enrique Ybanez and Andrew Walker picked off Vasquez passes.

Walker brought his back for a 30-yard pick-six, and Ybanez ended a Chino Hills drive with an interception in the end zone.

Up next: Ayala will host Citrus Valley (3-1) on Friday, and Chino Hills travels to Orange County to battle Foothill (3-1).
