Football:

A 105-mile bus ride home on a rainy Friday night isn’t so bad when you pick up a decisive victory.

And that’s exactly what the Rio Hondo Prep football program achieved last night.

The Kares traveled to Boron and jumped on the Bobcats early in a 54-20 victory.

Armando Carbajal has a monster game for the Kares.

Carbajal completed 7-of-11 pass attempts for 93 yards and three TD’s.

He also rushed for 94 yards on three carries.

And that includes an 86-yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage.

Nate Curtis caught three passes for 49 yards and two scores.

Curtis had TD catches of 23 and 2 yards.

Ryan McCulloch caught four passes for 44 yards, including an 8-yard TD pass from Carbajal.

McCulloch also had a game-high 138 yards rushing on nine carries.

He scored on a 39-yard TD run.

RHP had a 335-135 advantage on the ground.

Noah Penunuri carried the ball 10 times for 62 yards, and he scored on a 7-yard run.

Cologoro Chico caught a 32-yard TD pass from Alex Mustain.

And Anthony Hernandez capped the Kares scoring with an 8-yard TD run.

Boron’s Isaiah Morgan had 21 carries for 116 yards, and an 8-yard TD of his own.

Jalen York completed 9-of-21 passes for 146 yards.

He threw one TD for the Bobcats, but was picked four times.

RHP also intercepted Carson Burkhead’s only pass attempt of the night.

Nate Curtis picked off two Boron passes, while Armando Carbajal, Joshua David and Yanick Diaz has one each.

Colby Johnson had five tackles to lead RHP.

Ryan McCulloch and Nate Curtis had four tackles apiece.

Up next: RHP travels to Pasadena Poly to take on the Rio Hondo League’s cellar dwellers on Friday night at 7.

The Panthers (0-2) are the only RHL program without a win, and they’ve been outscored, 93-27, in their first two games.

Quotable:

RHP coach, Mark Carson: “It was a good team win in a challenging environment. A lot of credit to go around , but Armando Carbajal was our player of the game. He was great on offense and defense.”
