Football:
Azusa didn’t waste any time getting started in Saturday’s 2022 season opener.
AHS quarterback Nathan Noguez-Estrada hit Jimmy Romo on 60-and-40-yard TD passes in the first six minutes and Mountain View couldn’t keep up.
Azusa claimed a 51-6 victory thanks to five passing TD’s and one rushing score from Noguez-Estrada.
Mountain View actually pulled to within 12-6 of Azusa in the first quarter, as Xavier Spann scored on a 4th-and-goal play from the 1-yard line.
But Azusa would outscore the Vikings 39-0 the rest of the way.
In all, Noguez-Estrada hit Romo for three TD’s, the third of which was a 29-yard scoring strike.
He would also connect with Brody Peters on a 31-yard TD pass, and finally, a 40-yard hookup with Jeremiah Potter.
Noguez-Estrada had a couple TD’s called back, but not his 65-yard run to give Azusa a 26-5 lead in the second quarter.
Up next: The Aztecs will host Centura on Friday, September 2, at Citrus College.
