Football:

What a way to open the season.

The Ayala High School football program got to spend Thursday night in San Diego.

And the next evening, the Bulldogs defeated Torrey Pines, 28-14, in a week zero showdown with the Falcons.

AHS took a 21-0 lead into the fourth quarter and the outcome was never in doubt.

Ayala got a balanced attack offensively, which included 261 yards on the ground and another 166 through the air.

The Bulldogs scored two rushing and passing TD’s in Friday’s victory.

Marquis Monroe led all rushers with 202 yards on nine carries, and one TD.

Bryan Wilson, who made his first appearance since a season-ending injury last October 29th at Charter Oak, did his part in the win.

The three-year starter completed 13 of his 20 pass attempts for 166 yards.

Wilson threw TD passes to Vincent Garcia and Lytallion Payne, and the Bulldogs junior was picked twice.

Up next: Ayala will host Etiwanda on Friday.

The Eagles (0-1) dropped a 28-21 decision to Aquinas on Thursday night.
