Football:

Thursday’s season opener between visiting Chino Hills and Glendora was not a thing of beauty.

But all that matters is ‘scoreboard.’

And the Huskies opened their season 1-0, thanks to a 13-7 victory over the Tartans at Citrus College.

Chino Hills led 13-0 at the half and never trailed.

With just under four minutes into the game, Favian Vasquez hit CHHS sophomore, Cameron Bateman, on a 22-yard scoring pass.

And less than one minute into the second quarter, Vasquez would hit Tyrese Boss on a 2-yard score.

The extra-point attempt was no good, but the Huskies extended their lead to 13-0.

Glendora got on the board early in the fourth quarter, as Zach Ford scored on a 1-yard TD run.

The GHS offense struggled mightily, but they had gained some momentum in the fourth quarter and the Tartans’ defense had the Huskies looking at a 3rd-and-14 scenario deep in their own territory.

Vasquez, however, connected on a 15-yard strike to extend the drive and ate up several minutes on the clock.

Glendora wasn’t able to cross midfield on their final drive of the game.

Up next: GHS and Chino Hills will both host Friday night games next week.

The Tartans face Pasadena and the Huskies will take on Diamond Ranch.
